Looking for a Winter Sun Holiday on TravelZoo

Written by Karen Bryan

As I was thinking of a Winter sun holiday in the near future, either before or after Christmas, I decided to have a look at the TravelZoo website.

In the past, I’ve found some great deals on TravelZoo. Last year, I found an all inclusive holiday to Corfu at a four star hotel for £344 per person through TravelZoo.  It was a very good price for a stay at the highly rated Mayor Capo di Corfu hotel on an all-inclusive basis. The £344 price per person included return flights from Edinburgh to Corfu with easyJet.

I set a budget of not more than £500 per person for an all-inclusive holiday this Winter, staying at a four star hotel on an all-inclusive basis.  I thought that for my budget, the destination would probably be in Europe.

When I went to the TravelZoo site and clicked on the holidays tab, there was an option for all-inclusive holidays.

I was immediately attracted the £399 price tag of a holiday in Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, at the four star Labranda Bahia de Lobos hotel in the town of Corralejo. The location appealed to me, as on a previous holiday in Fuerteventura, we stayed in a different resort, further south in the island.

I had a feeling that perhaps the price of £399 would increase once I entered my preferred departure airports of Edinburgh or Glasgow. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the holiday was available for £399 flying from Edinburgh (our closest airport) for three dates towards the end of November.

When I read that the Labranda Bahia de Lobos had an average review score of 4.5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor, I was impressed.

I like to swim in the sea when I am on holiday, as opposed to a hotel swimming pool. Staying in a hotel right on the beach makes this more convenient. I looked up the precise location of the hotel. I was a bit disappointed by this, as it looked a few minutes walk to the beach. On the map I saw two hotels, the Waikiki Beach and Corralejo Beach, both of which were located right on the beach, making either or of them a much better option for my sea swimming.

But I have found that with cheap holidays, there is usually a compromise to make. With so many positives about the Labranda Bahia de Lobos, a short walk to the beach wasn’t necessarily a deal breaker.

I may have been able to find a TravelZoo discount code to lower the price of the holiday at the Labranda Bahia de Lobos hotel in Fuerteventura. But in some ways, I did fancy the idea of a beach side hotel, even if the price were slightly higher.

But there is a danger that if you don’t book a good deal as soon as you find it, that by the time that you do more research which doesn’t yield anything better, that the original deal may no longer be available.

Whenever, I am booking a holiday I always have a quick look at the VoucherButler website to see if they have any discount codes for the travel firm with which I am booking my holiday.
