Great Customer Service from Newcastle Airport Long Stay Car Park

car-parkAfter booking our holiday to Corfu, I searched for the cheapest parking for eight days a,t or near, Newcastle Airport.

I paid £43.22 for eight days parking at the Newcastle Airport long stay car park, by booking in advance through Purple Parking.

I was relieved that it was on-site parking at Newcastle Airport. A few years, when we went on holiday to Madeira, we parked at an off-site car park, which was hard to find. As our flight to Corfu departed at 6am, and we wanted to be at the airport 4am  I didn’t fancy getting lost in the country roads close to the airport in the early morning.

It was straightforward to find the long stay car park at Newcastle Airport. On arrival, we took a tickets from the barrier. It was a dry morning, so we decided to walk to the airport, rather than wait for the transfer bus.

The procedure upon our return to Newcastle Airport was to take that ticket, along with our parking reference number, to the office at the car park exit for validation.

Our return flight from Corfu to Newcastle with easyJet was cancelled, due a strike by Greek air traffic controllers. After we were re-booked on the next available direct flight to Newcastle one week later, I thought that I had better contact the Newcastle Airport long stay car park to inform them that our Skoda Fabia of the new pick-up day. The phone number of the car park was on the Purple Parking booking confirmation.

Luckily, the phone call to Newcastle Airport long stay car park was included in my Three Mobile Feel at Home package.

I was expecting to be charged a much higher daily rate for the additional seven day stay at the airport car park. Having paid an advance rate of £43.22 for eight days parking, I was expecting to have to cough up at least £50 for the additional seven days. I was unsure whether easyJet would reimburse us for parking, as there’s no clear definition of reasonable costs.

However, the member of staff at Newcastle Airport long stay car park informed me that as our extended stay at the car park was not our fault, there would be nothing extra to pay. She said that she would put the new date of return into the system.

Upon our return to Newcastle Airport, I took the ticket to the office, explaining that I had been in touch regarding the late pick up of our car. The staff member put the ticket into a validation machine, with no additional fee.

I was impressed by the customer service at Newcastle Airport long stay car park. It was refreshing not be charged extra, when this would have been perfectly justifiable.
