Should Over-50s Resign to Free Up Jobs for Younger Generation?

Written by Karen Bryan

I was astounded to read the article “Should job-hogging over-50s all resign?” on the BBC News website; mainly because of the triple whammy of the increasing state retirement age, the demise of final salary pensions and diminishing returns from private pension annuities making it very hard to plan retirement on anything like a decent income.

I’m 53 and would very happily give up paid work as a self employed online publisher/blogger tomorrow, if I were given a reasonable pension. But I’d keep doing what I’m doing as a hobby, with no pressure of having to earn a living from it. I could just concentrate on the aspects I enjoy, such as writing articles and being on Twitter, without having to bother with tasks like SEO or selling advertising.
