How a Phone Call Saved Me £48 on Home Insurance

how to save on home insuranceOur home insurance came up for renewal recently, so I started my usual shopping around a month before renewal date. I did a price comparison on Confused.com and the cheapest quote which included accidental damage, home emergency cover, contents away from home and legal expenses was £244 from Churchill, who were offering a 50% discount to new customers until August 2011.

I phoned our current insurer Direct Line who quoted £282 for renewal. When I told them that I’d found a quote for £244 with Churchill, they offered me a price of £234, a saving of £48 on their original price. I was delighted with this as Direct Line Home Insurance Plus offers free worldwide annual travel insurance, which would have cost around an additional £70 as a stand alone policy.

So proof that taking some time to shop around for insurance is a sound way to save more.
